Smart Sun Protection
Now that summer is in full force and another expected heart wave is on it’s way, many of us will be outside soaking up the sun. With the UV index reaching the extremes it is crucial to ensure you are well protected. Here are a few tips to protect your skin and keep cool.
1. Sunscreen – We know you know this. But did you know that most people do not apply enough. It needs to be applied liberally, and often. Especially when sweating or swimming. It is not a one shot deal.
2. SPF – SPF numbers start at 2 and now go as high as 70. Picking the right factor is important. Knowing how your skin reacts to the sun will help determine when to apply. For instance, someone who is fair skinned and burns easily will need to apply even a high factor more often then his or her darker skinned friends.
3. UVB or UVA? – Some sunscreen protects against one or both of these. What is the difference? UVB causes sun burn (hence the “b), UVA causing aging (hence the “a). So while you may want to avoid looking like a lobster right now, it is important to protect against long term damage.
4. Hat – Invest in a new and stylish hat. You will thank us!
