Treatments for Wrinkle Reduction FAQ
More and more people are choosing to soften the signs of aging. At CosMedics in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Ashwani K. Singh helps patients to feel comfortable and assured about their choice in treatments for wrinkle reduction. To help you understand the facts about the various treatments, he’s provided his answers to some of the questions he hears most frequently.
Are The Treatments Safe?
Whether you are choosing to use a non-medicinal treatment such as a topical cream or oil, Microdermabrasion, Laser Treatment, Chemical Peel or Clinical Facial, you should speak to your skin therapist or doctor about the ingredients, the procedure, the risks and what results are possible to see if this is the best, or only treatment for your desired result.
What areas can be treated ?
Any area that is a concern can be treated. However the best treatment may depend on the location, the severity of the wrinkles and the desired result. For a gradual, less dramatic result, topical creams and oils can be used on every part of the body and face. Be sure to read the directions and speak to your skin care therapist. Longer lasting and more noticeable results can be achieved with treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels and Lasers. These advanced skin care treatments can also improve the texture, tone and condition of the skin. Prescription injections can be used to treat crow’s feet and the glabella (vertical lines between the brows) and the forehead.
How long do treatments take?
Depending on the treatment and how dramatic you want your results to be, your treatment time will vary. For Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels and Laser Treatments, a typical treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour. The recovery and time to notice results will also vary depending on the treatment and the individual. Injections using a botulinum toxin take only about 10 or 15 minutes, with minimal down time and results showing within a few days. * Dermal Fillers such as Juvederm™, Juvéderm® Volbella®, Restylane®, Restylane-L®, Perlane® can take from 10-20 minutes depending on the areas being treated *. Results can be seen instantly as volume is restored *.
Are there any risks or side effects I should know about?
All treatments should be discussed with your skin care therapist and physician. There are risks associated with any treatment, therefore it is recommended to choose a qualified centre and physician to discuss your options.
How much do the treatments cost?
Prices vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of your treatment. At CosMedics, our prices are comparable to other clinics in our area. Many patients appreciate how affordable wrinkle treatments are, and patient financing options are available.
