  • Non-Surgical Nose Jobs: Cut-Free Correction
No Comments on Non-Surgical Nose Jobs: Cut-Free Correction

Are you tired of feeling self-conscious about that bump in your nose, but too scared to go under the knife to fix it? With the surge of injectables and fillers being used in cosmetic procedure in the last decade comes an ever-expanding list of ways they can be used. Injectables like are commonly thought of as wrinkle-diminishing, but they’re capable of so much more than that. The latest and greatest? Non-surgical, non-invasive rhinoplasty—otherwise known as a nose job.

If you think this sounds too good to be true, it gets even better. You can be in and out of this procedure in less than an hour, and then go straight to work or for a night out without anybody knowing. So how does this seemingly miraculous nose job work?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is ideal if you’re looking to smooth out bumps, bulges, or crookedness in your nose. (Unfortunately, it can’t be used to fix more serious problems, such as a deviated septum, or the actual size of the nose.) The procedure, pioneered in Los Angeles by Dr. Alexander Rivkin, is a simple one. It begins with numbing cream, which is applied to your nose; as this is a cut-free procedure, there is no anaesthetic required—in fact, not only can you remain fully awake during the “surgery,” but you can have your say on the end results as they happen.

Once your nose has been numbed, the filler is injected just under the skin’s surface. Where it goes depends on what type of correction you’re having made. After a few injections and a bit of moulding, you’re done—your nose is now smooth and shapely, with results that can last up to two years. No bruising, scarring, or long, painful healing time.

Curious about a non-surgical nose job? CosMedics’ Dr. Ashwani Singh is a recognized advanced injector. He can answer all of your questions—don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to inquire or share your own stories about this fast and fabulous procedure!

  • Laser Hair Removal for Tan Skin
No Comments on Laser Hair Removal for Tan Skin

In the past, laser hair removal was particularly effective in women and men who had light skin with dark hair. The lasers used for hair removal targeted melanin in the skin in order to destroy the hair follicle. The melanin is heated in the targeted area that the hair is being removed from, while the surrounding skin remains untouched. Then the laser energy is absorbed by dark material in the skin (i.e. melanin).

New laser systems send intense laser energy into the hair follicles. The laser is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and is then converted to heat. This heat then loosens the hair and stops new hair growth cells. While light skin and dark hair is the ideal combination for an Edmonton laser hair removal treatment, new advances in laser hair removal allow for even dark-skinned patients to enjoy the benefits of the treatment.

Laser hair removal can target hair on different parts of the body including:

    • Back
    • Neck
    • Legs
    • Underarms
    • Bikini Line
    • Face

Because laser hair removal is safe and effective for multiple skin types and hair color…what are you waiting for?

  • Hair Removal: What’s Your Best Option?
No Comments on Hair Removal: What’s Your Best Option?

As many of you know, there are several different types of hair removal methods, all with different benefits and drawbacks. Because there are so many different methods available, you might be wondering which method is the best for you.

To start, most women and men try shaving and waxing, as they are two of the most common hair removal methods. The benefits of these methods are that they are cheap and relatively quick. While waxing may sometimes be slightly painful, overall, these are great hair removal methods when there is little hair in the area and only needs temporary removal.

One major drawback to shaving and waxing is that they are only temporary, and therefore are not good options for those who desire a more permanent or long-term solution. In this case, laser hair removal in Edmonton can help women and men remove large areas of unwanted hair. Laser hair removal works by directing a laser to a targeted area uses pulses of light to destroy the hair follicle. Although this method is effective, typically multiple sessions are required for long-term hair removal.

While there certainly are other methods of hair removal, shaving, waxing, and laser hair removal are among the most popular. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which method is the right one for you.

What are your thoughts on hair removal?

  • Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
No Comments on Preparing for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal in Edmonton is an effective and long-lasting treatment. To benefit the most from this treatment, though, it is essential for our patients to prepare properly. Part of that preparation should be selecting a qualified physician to supervise your treatments.

Why choosing a medical doctor is important: Imagine going to a center for laser hair removal – and leaving with painful burns that result in scarring. It sounds like a nightmare. But it is a very dangerous and unfortunate reality that has occurred to many people who visit a practitioner who is not qualified. Lasers are a very powerful medical technology that, in the hands of someone who is not fully and properly trained, can cause burning. While it is not necessary to have a doctor perform your treatment, it’s a good idea to choose a laser hair removal practice that is supervised by an MD, who should be carefully selecting each member of his or her medical team.

What you need to know to prepare for your laser hair removal treatment: Prior to your treatment, it is important to avoid photosensitizing medications, fake tanning products, Retin A or hydroquinone, and related products. These products can interfere with your laser hair treatment. When you schedule your appointment, we will always take the time to explain in detail precisely what to avoid and what precautions to take to obtain the optimal results from your procedure.

My staff and I are always available to discuss proper preparation, as well as our extensive qualifications, training, and experience performing laser hair removal. I invite you to learn more by calling us at (780) 428-9333, or you can contact me for more information.

  • Back to Basics: Laser Hair Removal
No Comments on Back to Basics: Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal may sound complicated and futuristic. In reality, though, it’s a simple procedure that’s been around for over a decade. At a basic level, a trained technician or doctor will use a focused beam of light, which contains a single, powerful wavelength to remove the undesired hair. When the doctor applies the laser to the skin area containing the unwanted hair, only the skin that immediately surrounds the dark hair follicles absorbs the intense laser energy. The follicles respond to the heat by releasing the hair, and consequently, stop producing new hair after the treatment.

Before the latest advances, laser hair removal was most effective with dark hair and light skin. Now, however, the improvements in laser technology allow dermatologists and cosmetic doctors to treat a variety of skin tones and hair colors and achieve lasting results. As this technology continues to improve, more and more of my patients are enjoying the benefits of laser hair removal in Edmonton for an end to time-consuming shaving, plucking and waxing.
