What is PRP?
Our blood is made of two main components, red blood cells, and plasma. The plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are rich in growth factors. Growth factors signal the skin cells to function and speed tissue repair. These growth factors help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth.
How is the procedure done?
Dr. Singh will take a blood sample and put it in a machine called a centrifuge, which spins the blood at a rapid rate to separate out the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma, rich in platelets, is then injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles. Activation of growth factors occurs within 10 minutes, with nearly 100% activation occurring within I hour.
Is it safe?
Studies have shown PRP to be effective for both Men and Women experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, and can be used with other treatments or medication. PRP is easily harvested from patients’ own blood using, making it a safe, in-office medical procedure.
