A Chronic Migraine is 15 or more headache days each month, with migraine on at least 8 of those days, each lasting 4 or more hours.

How to Treat a Chronic Migraine

Migraines can range in severity from mild to moderate, to completely disabling the person from functioning, affecting their quality of life. When headaches are affecting you badly, your doctor can prescribe a number of different treatments that may help alleviate discomfort.

Non-Medicinal:

Preventative Treatments:

  • Neuromodulator Injections
  • Beta Blockers
  • Anticonvulsants

Symptomatic Treatments:

  • Ergots
  • Triptans
  • Analgesics
  • Opioids

Other Techniques:

  • Manipulation in the form of massage and reflexology
  • Pressure to the pulse points
  • Temperature—hot or cold

What Causes Chronic Migraines?

Age, heredity, environmental factors, diet, chemistry imbalances, and blood flow pathways can all be contributing factors to Chronic Migraines. 

Chronic Migraine Symptoms

Chronic migraine symptoms may include 1 or more of the following:

  • Pain on 1 or both sides of the head
  • Throbbing or pulsing pain
  • Nausea
  • Sensitivity to noise/ bright lights
  • Depressed mood
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
