Improve the appearance of your skin with a chemical peel.
Edmonton CosMedics spa services offer chemical peel treatments, including lactic acid, salicylic and glycolic peels, to enhance your skin on your face, neck, and hands. This treatment is for those wanting to reduce the look of wrinkles, acne, acne scars and other skin blemishes.
The first step to any advanced skin care treatment, including a chemical peel for acne, scars or wrinkles, starts with a consultation with Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh will assess your specific skin condition and address your concerns during this consultation.
What is a Chemical Peel?
Our chemical peels are often referred to as the lunch time peel, as they are a quick, safe and effective treatment with little to no downtime. These peels are superficial and target the outer layer of skin through a gentle chemical exfoliation. Patients may experience redness, itchiness, and irritation a few days following the treatment.
What skin issues can be helped by chemical peels?
Chemical peels are effective treatments for fine lines and wrinkles, acne and acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. Cumulative effects of chemical peels have been found to soften and reduce the appearance of minor scars. Dr. Singh will help you determine if your condition can be improved with this skin care treatment.
What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel Treatment
During the procedure, a chemical solution of lactic, glycolic and pyruvic acid will be applied to your skin. The chemical solution will encourage skin cell turnover, leaving a clear surface for new and regenerated skin to grow in its place. The new skin may appear less wrinkled and damaged compared to the top layers of skin that have peeled away. Many patients experience an improvement in their skins tone, texture, and colour of the treated area, and are pleased with the look of their beautiful new skin.
Before and After Care
Before your treatment
It is recommended that patients avoid using retinol or prescription face creams the day prior to, and the day following chemical peel treatments. It is also recommended that you practice sun safety by avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and using sunscreen daily.
After Care
Your healing time depends on your specific treatment and the depth of your chemical peel. Regardless of the type of treatment you have received, it is important to stay out of the sun for several weeks following your chemical peel.
- For a superficial chemical peel, your skin might appear red and you may experience dryness or flakiness.
- For medium peels, expect to have some redness, or frosting (crusting) of skin for up to a week following treatment. This is normal and it is recommended that you use gentle non-abrasive cleanser and apply an antibiotic ointment to help the skin heal and regenerate.
