Under eye bags and dark circles

Puffiness, hollowing, dark circles and lines under the eyes make you look tired even when you are not. Some people may develop under eye “bags” at a young age and never lose them, while others may find that the fat pads on their cheeks start to diminish as they age, leaving a clear groove or trough area. For others, prominent dark veins may contribute to under eye shadowing. Another contributing factor may be an excess of melanocytes which can darken the thin skin under the eye.

Under eye treatment options

Under Eye Fillers

For most patients that suffer from volume loss, simply injecting a very thin layer of dermal filler may be the easiest, quickest, most cost-effective solution. Thicker and thinner filler options are available, and Dr. Singh will know which to inject in this delicate area. Dermal fillers may be gradually layered to achieve your most natural look, bringing back a more rested, youthful appearance.

PRP Vampire Facial or Lift

If a person has demonstrated wrinkly, crepey skin under the eyes then aPRP Treatmentmight be the best option. A vial of your blood is taken by the doctor or nurse, spun down to separate the blood cells from theplatelet rich plasma (PRP)and then thatliquid gold is injected under the eye. No foreign substances are used, just your own growth factors. The results are gradual, with a noticeable improvement, once the swelling has gone down, about 1 week post treatment. A person can do multiple treatments, one month apart, until the desired results are achieved.

IPL Photofacial

Intense Pulse Laser (IPL) Treatments could also be used to correct the excessive pigmentation that may cause dark circles. An instrument is used that emits different wavelengths of light to destroy the melanin that makes those circles stand out.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels or quality skin bleaching creams may also be helpful options or complimentary treatments. Chemical peels can help eliminate circles because they exfoliate the damaged upper layers of skin to uncover the undamaged skin beneath. Cosmetic skincare lines will bleach and exfoliate the skin. Most of these treatments contain ingredients that claim to make the iron in the blood soluble, so it will flush away with the product’s use and thereby lighten the darkened area. Another option is to ask about some of the special serums designed to eliminate dark under eye circles.

What causes under eye bags and dark circles?

Genes are not solely responsible for our under eye concerns. Alcohol, smoking, quick weight loss, lack of sleep, dehydration and sun damage may also be contributing factors. Ultimately the biggest culprit is aging, leading to the thinning and sagging we see in the mirror.
